About Us
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is a part of the Sinhgad College of Engineering since its inception in 1996 and accredited for next 5 years by the National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi (NBA) in 2013. Today, the department has grown geometrically from an intake of 60 to 300 for its UG program. The department also runs four post graduate specializations in Design Engineering (Intake-18), Heat Power Engineering (Intake-25), Mechatronics (Intake-18) and Automotive Engineering (Intake-18). The Doctoral Research Centre, which is functioning in the department since 2007, currently has 35 research scholars registered with it and 8 candidates have been awarded Ph.D. so far.
A Mechanical Engineer could be brought in various core areas like Automotive Engineering, Energy Systems, Heat Power, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Design Engineering and Mechatronics etc. The department has developed the state of art laboratories required for the same. Besides teaching, the 50 plus faculty members in this department are actively involved in research and consultancy work in prominent areas like Design and Development, Energy Auditing, Industrial Evaluation, and Testing. The research work of the faculty has been funded by the BCUD, DST & AICTE.
Our students are participating in various technical competitions at national as well as international level. Recently our students successfully participated in the FSAE 2016 event at Japan. At FSAE 2015 event in Italy, our students won 2nd prize in cost evaluation competition. Our BAJA SAE team “Kraftwagen” has secured 2nd rank out of 400 plus teams in the virtual round of BAJA SAE 2017. Also, Kraftwagen won the 1st prize of Rs. 60 thousand in cost Evaluation, 2nd prize of Rs. 40 thousand in sales presentation at BAJA SAE event in 2015 as well as 1st of Rs. 1.00 Lakh for ergonomics and aesthetics in the BAJA SAE event in 2014. The students of the department have also secured the first prize in, model making competition organized by Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics in 2016, international symposium organized by ARAI in 2016, Autodesk competition in 2014, and, 2nd prize in the ASME project competition in 2014. In sports, our students have won prizes at state level in Badminton, Soccer and Cricket. While most of our students find placement with companies such as Cummins India, Mahindra Vehicle, Thermax, Tata Technology, Atlas Copco etc., every year more than 20 plus students are able to secure admission for M.S program at universities ranked in top 300 in the world. Similarly more than 30 plus students seek admission in premium institutes in India like IIT’s and NIT’s.
