Industry Funded Laboratories (Tie-ups):

Department of E & TC is actively working to create technically equipped next generation students. For this eminent industries extended their support and donated lab equipments and softwares to E & TC Department of  Sinhgad C.O. E. These labs provide ample resources from INTEL, TEXAS, XILINXS, ACTEL etc. Now S.C.O. E., E & TC students are working in all such companies and on leading positions. The sponsored labs builds cutting edge knowledge domain of faculties and students and it immensely help to tune up with upcoming technologies. Department is looking forward for such more collaborations in the near future.

1)ACTEL:

Objectives:

●       To provide hands on and practical exposure of FPGA, CPLD, Libero etc.

●       To build cutting edge technologies domain and to make the students to tune up with upcoming technologies.

●       To provide the platform to the students for FPGA based interfacing projects.

Introduction :The hardware and software funded by ACTEL is grooming up students to work in semiconductor industries. The hands on and practical exposure of FPGA, CPLD, Libero etc. build students and ready to work in VLSI MNC companies. The fundamentals of digital and VLSI design are governed by ACTEL Hardware and software. Many students used these resources in their UG/ PG Projects.

Amount : 1. 2 Cr.

Activities: Several UG and PG Projects are carried out under Actel funded lab.

●       FPGA based physical parameter monitoring system

●       GPS based navigation system for railways

●       Intelligent Mobile Robot, Configurable efficient ALU etc.

2)TEXAS :

Objectives:

●  To develop students with comprehensive knowledge of DSP Processors and Microcontrollers to solve signal processing algorithms.

●       To design a system or algorithm of signal processing to meet desired realistic needs.

Introduction: The MSP430 is a mixed signal microcontroller family from Texas Instruments. Built around a 16 bit CPU, the MSP430 is designed for low cost and, specifically, low power consumption embedded application.

The MSP 430 can also be used for low power embedded devices. The current drawn in idle mode can be less than 1 µA. The top CPU speed is 25 MHz. It can be throttled back for lower power consumption.  The MSP430 also uses six different low-power modes, which can disable unneeded clocks and CPU. Additionally, the MSP430 is capable of wake-up times below 1 microsecond, allowing the microcontroller to stay in sleep mode longer, minimizing its average current consumption. The device comes in a variety of configurations featuring the usual peripherals: Some less usual peripheral options are also added.

3) INTEL FICE Lab

Objectives:

●       To develop students with solid foundation in recent microcontroller platforms.

●       To nurture students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in Arduino programming.

●       To get acquainted with Intel Galileo board as Embedded system platform.

●       To expertise in designing real world situations using updated Galileo board platform.

The Inel Intelligent Systems lab is to introduce engineering students to state of art platform of Intel Galileo board to design and develop Embedded systems, to help them carrying out their project/ dissertation work. These boards are based on Intel Quark/ SoC X 1000 Application processor and Inforce SYS 94XX reference platform. Galileo is 32 bit Intel Platinum class system on a chip. It is the first board based on Intel Architecture designed to be compatible with Arduino shield. The objective of this lab is to provide platform to the various researchers from academia, industrial persons and R & D organizations to enhance the research in the area of Embedded System with platform of Galileo board. In the lab, students will understand to build setups based on interactive sensors and output devices. The learners will experiment Wi Fi and bluetooth like wireless communication protocols with  Galileo board. Also some vision based projects could also be carried out.

4) ST Microelectronics:

Objectives:

●       To provide modern engineering tools for students to design and develop electronics systems for real life problems.

●       To enrich student’s knowledge in efficient embedded systems design.

●       To nurture the students in System on chip design, real time operating system design, Internet of Things.

Introduction: The liason has set up between department of E & TC - Sinhgad COE with ARM Ltd. UK enables additional use of ARM Technology. The consignment of high end development boards and state of the Art- Keil Design software completely free of cost and based on knowledge strength for academic holy purpose. The beneficiary of this development are laboratories, UG/ PG student projects , research, Faculty/ Student development. The contents of software tools are 100 licenses for Keil MDK. ARM offers the Keil Microcontroller Development Boards(MDK -ARM) for ARM powered microcontrollers. It features the industry standard compiler from ARM , The Keil Micro Vision IDE and sophisticated debug and data trace capabilities It offers tailored support for all Cortex M processor based devices, and the recommended solutions for students working with standard ARM based MCU devices.

The lab also includes Development boards, 10 ARM Cortex based STM32F4 Discovery Boards from ST Microelectronics. The STM32F4 Discovery helps to discover the STM32F4 high performance features and to develop your applications easily. It includes everything required for beginners and experienced users to get started quickly. Based on STM32F407VG T6 , it includes ST-LINK/V2 embedded debug tool, two ST MEMS, digital accelerometer and digital microphone, one audio DAC with integrated class D speaker drive, LED and push buttons and a USB OTG micro AB connector.

Activities: B. E. Projects are carried out using the Keil software and Kits from ARM STMicroelectronics.

●       Rainfall and Landslide detection using WSN

●       Automatic Vehicle identification using ARM Processor

5) Xilinx :

Objectives:

●       To provide hands on and practical exposure of FPGA, CPLD, Libero etc.

●       To build cutting edge technologies domain and to make the students to tune up with upcoming technologies.

●       To provide the platform  to the students for FPGA based interfacing projects.

Introduction :The ISE 14.7 software (10 License) funded by XILINX is grooming up students to work in semiconductor industries. The hands on and practical exposure of FPGA, CPLD, Libero etc. build students and ready to work in VLSI MNC companies. The fundamentals of digital and VLSI design are governed by Xilinx software. Many students used these resources in their UG/ PG Projects.

Amount :10 Lac.

Activities: Several UG and PG Projects are carried out under Xilinx funded lab.

6) eYantra Lab:

Objectives:

●       To provide a platform for students/ trainers to demonstrate their knowledge and programming skills in Embedded Systems and Robotics.

●       To learn by doing. It provides an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge to solve real life problems with given hardware.

●       To implement better projects with help from eYantra open source community.

●       To get better performance at competitions such as the eYantra Robotics Competition (eYRC)

Introduction: e-Yantra is a project by IIT ,Bombay to spread education in Embedded Systems and Robotics. This project has been sponsored by Ministry of Human Resource Development. The eYantra Lab Setup Initiative supports infrastructure at colleges by providing a platform for training teachers and students both in theory and applications in Robotics, in addition to providing guidance in setting up Robotics Lab.

7) nVidia Software:

Objectives:

●       To Explore the fundamentals of deep learning by training neural networks and using results to improve performance and capabilities.

●       To implement common deep learning workflows, such as image classification and object detection

●       To Experiment with data, training parameters, network structure, and other strategies to increase performance and capability.

●       ·To  Deploy the  neural networks to start solving real-world problems

Introduction: NVIDIA DLI have granted with 200 promo codes for two self-placed online courses and associated electives.

1.         Fundamentals of Deep Learning for Computer Vision.

Explore the fundamentals of deep learning by training neural networks and using results to improve performance and capabilities.

●       Classification, Segmentation And Recognition

2. Fundamentals of Accelerated Computing with CUDA C/C++

The CUDA computing platform enables the acceleration of CPU-only applications to run on the world’s fastest massively parallel GPUs. Experience C/C++ application acceleration by:

Accelerating CPU-only applications to run their latent parallelism on GPUs

Utilizing essential CUDA memory management techniques to optimize accelerated applications

Exposing accelerated application potential for concurrency and exploiting it with CUDA streams

Leveraging command line and visual profiling to guide and check your work

Upon completion, student will be able to accelerate and optimize existing C/C++ CPU-only applications using the most essential CUDA tools and techniques.

Importance of the courses:

●       Concepts could be applied to end-to-end projects.

·    Each course presents a self-paced learning environment with access to a    GPU-accelerated workstation in the cloud. All you need is a web browser and an Internet connection to get started.

Two GPU kits are funded by NVIDIA Singapore Ltd.
