Student Training Program
  • Student Training Program (STP) is incorporated into the curriculum to help prepare and evaluate the students in technical and non technical skills.
  • As a part of STP, subject wise, all lectures are conducted by faculty members. This is a LAN based resource to help students learn and revisit concepts discussed in the class
  • The training provided is based on the need of the students to enhance the employability opportunity and higher education in India as well as abroad.
  • STP program is spread over 7 semesters and total duration of program is 120 plus hours. STP program is designed to provide training and practice on soft skills, technical fundamentals, value added components, quantitative aptitude and logical reasoning, group discussion and interview preparation.

AMCAT/QA-LR

AMCAT(Aspiring Minds Computer Adaptive Tests) & Quantitative Aptitude and Logical Reasoning (QA-LR )

In every semester, the students appear for AMCAT and QA/LR tests. AMCAT is a test that is used to assess the need for training in soft skills. Every semester AMCAT test is conducted by the AMCAT Company.QA/LR test is conducted by the STES to assess aptitude and logical skills. The detailed report card is sent to his/her mail id. Thus, the student himself understands his current level of performance in aptitude, communication, reasoning etc. and can monitor his own progress.

 

Responsibility towards Society

The Institute has social activity cells to develop a strong sense of moral and social responsibility among students. A number of social activities are regularly organized by the Institute for contributing to society.

  • The college has a very active and enthusiastic team, “The Life Editors”, “Burning Minds”, Students associations at department level and various clubs at college level. These teams are involved in many social, ethical and environmental activities such as donation of clothes to the needy people, visit and help to orphanages, tree plantations, women empowerment, cleanliness missions, etc.
  • Due to the present draught conditions the number of farmers attempting suicide has grown. The team of The Life Editors realised the situation of farmers and have raised the funds for farmers of Rs.57,000/- and donated to NAAM Foundation by Nana Patekar.
  • Our students of The Life Editors were also involved in Clean-up march in the city to contribute towards Swach Bharat Abhiyan.
  • The students of Civil Engineering Students Association CESA have arranged many social activities like fund raising for the orphanages, blood donation camp in association with Dhariwal Enterprises and distribution of stationary to deaf and dumb students.
  • To create Women Empowerment in the society, the team of CESA (Civil Engineering Students Association) had arranged street play in the city under Women Empowerment Committee.
  • The students of ETSA, Electronics and Tele-communication Association had arranged a Plastic Free Campus March in college to contribute in the balance of environment.
  • The institute has separate Women Empowerment Cell.All of its programs are aimed at achieving the dictum of Embodiment, Empowerment and Enhancement of Women.The club had arranged a Seminar on My Life my Choice by Ms. Sneha Sathe, Asst. Prof. Karve Institutes of Social Service.

The Mechanical Engineering Students Association MESA has visited many orphanages like Mamta Foundations, Sukhsagarnagar, Pune and  Maharashtra Deaf and Dumb Society, Mohammedwadi, Pune. The students arranged various programmes and donated clothes, food, fruits, sweets, books, colours, toys, etc. to the children.

The students of ITSA (Information Technology Students Association) have visited the orphanage Apalaghar, Pune a NGO managed by Late Vaibhav Phalnikar Memorial Foundation,and donated clothes to the children.

Orientation Programs

The orientation programs at institute level and department level are organized at the very first day and second day of commencement of the program, where students are guided by the eminent personality in the field. The students are also get introduced with the institute and department and also made aware about the different facilities and training programs available.

Induction programs are conducted at the beginning of academic year for the newly admitted students in the college.

 

Innovative Practices

The Institute always gives full support to the faculty in adopting various innovative teaching practices. Faculties have full freedom with regards to the methods of curriculum delivery. The following practices are followed:

  • The Institute encourages the faculty to use proactive teaching methodologies such as role-play; quiz, brain storming, group discussion and K-POINT videos lecture for effective instruction delivery.
  • Faculty members make question banks to improve the success rate, mock practical’s which help students prepare for their examinations.
  • Faculty members are deputed for participating in innovative teaching learning Programs like WIPRO Mission10X.
  • Senior faculty mentors junior faculty by sharing their knowledge about effective teaching through TTT and FDP.
  • Faculty uses techniques like project based learning and model making to make the conceptual understanding easy.
  • Quiz, puzzles and crosswords are used to access the understanding of the students.

 

Impact of Innovative Practices
  • The students’ attendance in the class improved because of student centric pedagogical methodology used in teaching-learning. The participation of the students and interest in getting the concept understanding is increased. This reflects in their project, academic result, participation in co-curricular activity etc. Results and placement also shows positive impact of these methods used in teaching.

 

Internship & Industrial Visits

While delivering curriculum given by university, our institution has also made efforts to enrich the employability skills of student to make them able to stand in this competitive world. The Training and Placement(T&P) cell of institution is constantly in contact with different companies, they forward the skills required by companies to Head of the department, according to that , activities are arranged for students. Students undergo internship Programs and Company training.

Research, Consultancy and Extension

To build research culture among the students, staff and external stake holders and for quality enhancement the institute promotes research. The institute takes initiative to publicize the facilities and resources available through the institute’s website.

SPPU has a recognized research and development cell established in the year 2015-16, for Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering & Mechanical Engineering departments.

R & D cell monitors the smooth and efficient coordination of research and development activities in the institute for fostering research and innovation.

Four R & D labs to carry out research activities for students and faculty are made available 24X7 by institute. The college has all academic resources like central library with advanced books, journals, e-resources, fully equipped laboratories and internet facility to all departments.  Well qualified and senior staff with their expertise in their respective field contributes for research and innovation. Also veteran professors and company executives are invited as a resource person for seminars / conferences / workshops / UG & PG projects. Financial assistance is given to the staff and students to promote research activities like minor / major research projects, research publication, attending seminars / conference / workshops etc.

The research committee in the institute sensitizes the faculty the essentials of research, enlists the funding agencies for financial assistance for research projects or seminars / conference / workshops at National / International levels to be conducted at the institute. The committee recommends faculty members to pursue PhD, identifies eligible departments for up gradation of research centers to higher authorities.

A Technology Business Incubation (TBI) center, Entrepreneur Development (ED) cell and Industry Institute Interaction (III) cell have been set up to enhance research activities to create competent manpower. Through these cells the institute promotes self development of students by encouraging them to participate in national, international events like BAJA, SUPRA, GOKART, ROBOCON etc. As a result each year the students have won various state, national and international level awards. This year also students have won first prize at national level in the competition of BAJA.

The R & D cell has contributed to considerable research outcome and given various solutions as per industry requirement. The institution has11 PhDs, 04 PhD guides, 40 faculty members pursuing PhD, 53 books published, 32 patents filed and 03 faculty members are reviewers of reputed journals. Ongoing research projects worth Rs. 64 lakhs received through different funding agencies, Rs 18.95 lakhs funded research projects completed. Eight faculty members have received reputed awards and 848 research papers have been published in last 4 years.

50 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with industries has been signed by institute to establish a bond with the industry for the purpose of inclusive growth. The institute promotes research projects to be carried out with outside agencies / industries like ISRO, DST and BCUD-SPPU, so as to provide solutions to industrial problems and creating more research facilities at the institute. These linkages with industries, agencies, institutions & research centers have manifested into providing hands-on experience /on job training for students, placements and also carrying out social service programs to the community.
