Early morning at 7.30 A.M. every one gathered at College Campus to move towards a beautiful fort at beautiful location. After pooja, journey started towards Lohagad by bus. Good roads to the base and an easy climb make Lohagad fort, one of the most popular destinations to visit, close to Pune.

School Visit :

We visited a Primary School at Bhaje, Lohagad .We distributed Notebooks, Stationary material and snacks to the school students.

Lohgad Trek

After having Snack we then moved for Trekking the Lohagad fort. It is a 3400 ft formidable fort near Pune. It makes an ideal trekking destination for trekkers because of its accessibility, ease of the trek and lush green surroundings.

Initially climb was on dirt track and it was steep at few places. There was a small board at the foot which gives the history and a rough map of the fort. Lohagad is 2000 years old fort replete with history. As the staircases start, the first door, traditionally called Ganesh darwaja arrived.

There is vast expanse of land most of it flat and some of it high ground. We roamed around in the fort and saw Shivji and Hanuman Mandir, Trimbak Talav, Hatti talav, Dargah, a domed structure which is the first thing that is seen as the fort is reached.

The top of the fort is quite expansive and offers uninterrupted views in all directions. The highlight of Lohagad is its Vinchukata fortification (resembling a scorpion’s tail).

The fort is still in a good condition and relatively cleans. Many of the structures on the fort are still intact and climbing the fort would give you the feeling of actually climbing a fort rather than walk on “made in 21st century” concrete steps!

Karla Caves - Caves near Lohagad

Then we went to see Karla caves, located about 10 km. from Lohgad.

The temple is located on a hill. One needs to climb around 500 steps to reach the temple. It is surrounded by Karla caves. While the main goddess is Ekvira Mata, to her left is Jogeśvarī Devi. One gets an excellent view of the surrounding from the hill top. Halfway down the hill, there is a temple for the holy feet of the Goddess.
